Lecturers and students from QIU’s School of Hospitality were given the honour of serving the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Her Royal Highness Tuanku Zara Salim at a morning banquet in Ipoh yesterday.

The ‘Majlis Santapan’ was organised in conjunction with the Perak Society of Performing Arts’ (PSPA) Holiday Extravaganza Carnival and the Ipoh Car Free Day, which were held along Jalan Raja Di-Hilir.

Also gracing the event were Datin Seri Dr Nomee Ashikin Mohammed RadziIpoh Mayor Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and PSPA President Datin Rosalina Ooi-Thong.

On hand to represent our university were Chief Operating Officer Mr Nicholas GohRegistrar Mr Muhammad MG Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Prof Dr Loke Siew Phaik and Deputy Dean Dr Jeffrey Yee.

After notching up some impressive performance in national competitions, our culinary team has really made a name for itself – and they definitely didn’t disappoint this time.

The fantastic spread featured five courses comprising dishes from around the world, and by all accounts, it was an absolute hit.

The brunch included an assortment of canapés that included lemon and dill deviled quail egg, smoked salmon canapé with crème Fraiche and Beluga black caviar, and seared scallop with ginger and soy.

Next on the menu was angel hair primavera, chicken and mushroom quiche, and a selection of our bread that has been such a hit in the University. This comprised plain and walnut raisin sourdough, as well as honey milk and cheddar cheese loaves.

The icing on the cake was the delectable desserts that included salted caramel chocolate tarts, brownies with white chocolate ice cream, blueberry muffins and classic butter cake.

The event was immensely significant for our students, who were given a first-hand experience of the protocol and professionalism involved with events of this magnitude. It was yet another example of the University’s commitment to holistically blend theoretical education and practical learning.

Congratulations to our Culinary Arts team who performed impeccably throughout the event, representing the University with distinction!
