A total of 199 new graduates from 14 programs including 47 pioneer medical graduates received their scrolls at the third Convocation Ceremony of Quest International University Perak (QIUP) held on 19 November 2017.
The graduation event, was overseen by Chairman of the University Council, Dato Sri Dr. Vijay Eswaran and Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry bin Abdul Kadir.
Twelve students received First Class Honours and Distinction degrees. The Convocation ceremony also saw the pioneer batch of 47 Medical students graduating who received their scrolls from Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry bin Abdul Kadir.
The convocation ceremony witnessed the awarding of degrees to students who completed their studies in the fields of Business, Medicine, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Accountancy, Finance, Arts, Biotechnology, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Computer Science as well as Diploma in Information Technology, Business Management, Accountancy and Hotel Management.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Vijay pointed out that the medical graduates had made QIUP proud and he was pleased with their remarkable academic achievements. He advised the medical graduates to portray their utmost ability to serve the nation as well as to become role models not only for their junior students but also to set a good example for all medical schools in Malaysia.
He also urged them to continue to learn for the rest of their life and to become notable practitioners of repute in their chosen areas of medicine.
“I congratulate the students who are graduating today. It is generally a once in lifetime achievement for any student to be part of a convocation ceremony. It reminded me of my convocation day. Now you are going to be a part of the practical world, it’s your new journey. Make your university and parents proud.
“Additionally, the ceremony reflects a huge step forward for QIUP. As a vibrant academic institution, within a short period of six years we have made a mark in the academic map of the country. The University’s progress in etching its name in the international space of education has already begun and is now going to attract global recognition,” noted Dr. Vijay.
Dr. Vijay also revealed at the ceremony that QIUP is set to become one of the first university’s in the world to issue blockchain-based academic certificates. Developed by Computer Science students from the Faculty of Integrative Sciences and Technology at QIUP, the implementation of blockchain-based academic certificate inherits the secured and tamper-proof nature of the blockchain technology, aiming to prevent forgery of academic certificates.
“I am indeed very pleased to reveal the cohort of 199 graduating students in 2017 becoming the first to receive their certificates in secure digital format in addition to the traditional paper format. This is one notable milestone of the University,” remarked Dr. Vijay.
With a current enrolment of some 1,500 students, the University has graduated more than 500 students who have gone on successful careers locally, regionally and internationally. Dr. Vijay also presented the outstanding scholastic achievement award to Ms. Thien Jiao Mhun, a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) student, who was announced as the Valedictorian for this convocation.
Established in 2011 on a campus in downtown Ipoh, QIUP’s permanent campus is being built at Bandar Meru Raya, as part of the sprawling QI City near here. It now offers more than 30 undergraduate and post-graduate programmes including Engineering, Business Administration, Medicine, Accountancy, Computer Science, IT and Hotel Management.
“We have grown from an initial batch of 98 students in 2011 to where we are today – 1500 students and we are reaching out to many students, especially from the north of Peninsular Malaysia as well as other parts of Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak.
“We are also living up to our international reputation as we have students from more than 30 countries enrolled in various courses at QIUP. We have been recognized as a leading institution of higher learning in this part of the world – offering a full range of undergraduate majors, plus Master’s and Doctoral programs,” noted Dr. Vijay.
The convocation was attended by 1200 people made up of QIUP Council members, faculty members, senior Perak state government officials and students as well as their families.
