Ever thought to yourself ‘I want to be more green and sustainable, but I just don’t know where to start?’ Well, you could just do what our QIU staff did and start with yourself!
In less than two hours, QIU’s academic and non-academic staff managed to clear up 160kg of excess and unused materials from their respective workspaces during a recent office clean-up.
Ranging from paper and files to stationery and plastic containers, the unused items were gathered and disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner.
Result: a cleaner, more spacious work environment and a workforce that’s more aware of how small changes can affect change.
The project was initiated by the University’s Sustainable Development Goals Operations cluster, led by Career Services and Placement Senior Manager Ng Mei Chan.
“A clean workplace environment influences employees’ productivity, performance and well-being. Maintaining a clean workplace helps keep us safe, healthy and efficient,” she said, adding that this was another of the University’s activities to work towards achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
” It’s really important that we maintain a clean working environment to reduce work-related stress and save time, especially because we spend less time looking for things and free up office space.”
As the saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and we’re proud of all the activities and initiatives carried out to make a positive difference. Kudos to everyone involved!
