QIU’s Staff Social Responsibility (SSR) programmes continued to make a difference in the local community, as our staff joined a communal clean-up in Buntong yesterday.
Droves of our volunteers descended on Kampung Buntong 3 Tambahan, equipped with garbage bags and trash pickers from 8 am to 12 pm.
They were guided and joined by the helpful members of the Buntong 3 & 4 Rukun Tetangga and Ipoh city council staff.
At the end of the day, 250kg of rubbish was cleared off the streets, thanks to the diligent efforts of our staff.
The clean-up was yet another of the University’s initiatives aimed at fulfilling the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Among others, the activity allowed us to contribute to the following goals:
- Goal No.13 – Climate Action
- Goal No.15 – Life on Land
- Goal No. 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
After a thoroughly enjoyable and purposeful day, QIU Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Goh lauded today’s participants for making a difference.
“We hope this will not be the last time we do this together, as we want to do more and give back to the community here.”
Rukun Tetangga Kawasan Buntong 3 & 4 Chairman S.Jayagopi echoed the sentiment, adding:
“We have a lot of ongoing projects here, including water projects and community efforts to create soap and candles from used oil.
“There are a lot of things we can work on together, so we hope this will not stop here.
