QIU HOLDS INAUGURAL E-ORIENTATION

While many things have changed after the Covid-19 pandemic, QIU’s dedication commitment to quality education and our students’ welfare remains our top priority.

In line with the ongoing Movement Control Order (MCO) and our move towards online education, QIU held our first-ever e-orientation session for students from the May 2020 intake.

The orientation was held on Google Meet this morning (May 2). On hand to welcome the students were QIU Director of Academic Affairs Prof Dr Tina Lim, our deans and several department heads.

In her welcoming address, Prof Tina explained how QIU’s pivot to online learning and services would still provide a high-calibre university experience for the students.

“Since the MCO was announced, we have moved our education completely online.  It has always been the trademark of this university to ensure that you receive quality education – only this time you’ll be learning from the comfort of your own home,” she said.

“But that’s not all. Immediately after the MCO was announced, we launched an array of online-based student services designed to help our students through this trying time.”

Prof Tina said this included the University’s Medicare programme, a platform where staff and students are able to get medical advice from our university’s clinicians; as well as our Careline programme, connecting students who need someone to talk to during this challenging situation, to our in-house counsellors.

“There are many more online services put in place to address any issues you have,” she told the students.

“We do this because we care for you. Your welfare comes first because your families have put you under our care. We have a duty to make sure you are comfortable, happy, and ready to become the best version of yourself. “

The students were also given the chance to meet our deans and learn about the various divisions in the University, before joining in a question-and-answer session.

Their QIU journey will continue next week during the Faculty Orientation and Briefing sessions which will be held on May 4 (Monday), as well as the Clubs and Societies briefing on May 6 (Wednesday).

To all the new members of the QIU family, welcome! We’re proud to be part of your exciting quest for success!
