Faculty of Integrative Sciences and Technology (FIST) recently organized the First Inter-School Research Poster Competition on 25th April 2017. The competition was organized to provide a platform for students to showcase their Final Year Research Project accomplishment in a coherent and concise way as well as to create an engaging environment for them to share their ideas while developing skills in effective communication for dissemination of research information.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syed Atif Abbas, the Deputy Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy and Ms. Anna Arokia Nathen, the Senior lecturer of Faculty of Business, Management and Social Sciences evaluated eight research posters from School of Biological Sciences and four research posters from School of Engineering and Computer Technology based on the visual presentation, poster integrity and student presentation. The research topics included micropropagation and chemoprofiling of Adenia sp., induction of somatic embryogenesis of popular Malaysian rice varieties, study of parasitic organism infecting the skin and gills of Barbonymous gonionotus and Oreochromis niloticus bred in captivity, host-specificity and phenotypic characterisation of rhizobial symbionts of Leucaena leucopehala (petai belalang), physical and biological characterization of poly(3-hydroxybuyyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) copolymer incorporated with the ethanol extract of Adenia sp., isolation and molecular identification of antibiotic resistant food borne pathogens from raw chicken meat, strain improvement of Bacillus sp. via random mutation for amylase production, Arduino based efficient energy saving system, street light power saving system, line follower robot using colour sensor and autonomous thermal detection surveillance drone.
The prize giving ceremony was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pong Hon Keat and Mr. Jeyajulian Ramachanderan, the Deputy Deans of FIST, Dr. Vilasini Pillai, the Head of Biotechnology Department, lecturers, participant and students.
