BIOTECHNOLOGY: Frontier Technology. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary field that combines the knowledge of biology, chemistry, medicine, physics, engineering and mathematics. It involves the use of living organisms together with various modern technologies to  improve existing products or to produce new ones for the benefit of mankind and the environment.

The Malaysian Government has recognized biotechnology as a key strategic driver to propel our country’s social and economic development in pursuit of the status of a developed nation. It is estimated that by 2020, the biotech industry will contribute RM 48 billion of Gross National Income (GNI), creating 170,000 new job opportunities and capturing investment of RM 50 billion. Malaysia’s abundant biodiversity; strong governmental support and commitment in R&D provide a solid base for further developments in the biotech sector.

Quest International University Perak (QIUP) offers a 4 year bachelor degree programme in Biotechnology (B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology) that emphasizes  current advances in biotechnology to increase agricultural yield, prevent / cure ailments, produce a healthier & cleaner environment and to minimize hazardous waste production in industries. The students of the Biotechnology programme will be introduced to modern high-end laboratories equipped with the latest Biotechnology instruments.  In their final year of studies, a mini project will be assigned to each student to hone their research, innovation and problem-solving skills to gain self-confidence during real-world encounters. This will be followed by 6 months of internship at Biotechnology companies or universities as practical training in an actual working environment.

The curriculum, delivered by experienced professional academicians and industry experts in our Biotechnology program will enhance the student’s understanding of Biotechnology and real life industry related issues, equipping them with bio-entrepreneurship knowledge, presentation skills, and leadership qualities to succeed in their careers. Students graduating from the B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology program at QIUP armed with these additional qualities and their knowledge in the current trends in Biotechnology will be outstanding candidates for even the most challenging of jobs.

Examinations Requirements
Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) Pass in STPM with a full pass in two subjects with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
General Certificate of Education
Advanced (“A”) levels
Pass in A-level in two subjects
Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) Pass in Unified Certificate (UEC) with at least Grade B in 5 subjects
Matriculation / Foundation Pass in Matriculation / Foundation Programme in a relevant field from any recognised HEP with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
Diploma in any Science-related areas Pass Diploma in a related field from a HEP recognised by the Malaysian Government with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
Other Qualifications Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Government of Malaysia
  •  The university reserves the right to make the final decision on acceptance into a university degree programme.

Intakes: 3 intakes in a year


Duration: Full-time – 4 years

Students’ ability is gauged both through continuous assessments and a final exam. The continuous assessment component comprises tests / quizzes, mid-term examination, laboratory works, field trips reports / presentation, and projects / assignments / case studies which accounts for an allocation of about 40% marks depending on the course. The balance of the marks is allocated for the final examination.
