Diploma in Information Technology aim to provide students with skills, knowledge and tools required for those involved in information technology related career.

Programme objectives

The detailed objectives of the programme are:

  • To possess relevant knowledge, skills and aptitude to meet job specifications,
  • To utilize current computing tools and techniques by applying knowledge and interpreting information to solve problems,
  • To execute and be responsible for routine tasks
  • To have team and interpersonal skills, and are aware of their social and ethical responsibilities

Programme learning outcomes

Graduates of this programme will, typically, be able to:

  • Apply the necessary combination of knowledge and skills to assist in an organisation’s computing infrastructure and its users
  • Use the technological discipline with aspects of information and communications technology, mathematics, and provide the students with the skills and knowledge to responsibly be part of today's IT workforce
  • Explain and apply various techniques of analysing user requirements and specifications, as well as designing and implementing software systems
  • Have the ability to configure, integrate and deploy systems, and provide technical support within the organisations

Examinations Requirements
Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent with at least THREE (3) credits in any subjects inclusive of Mathematics OR Other qualifications as per MQA guidelines
Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with two full passes in 2 subjects and with a credit in Mathematics at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level.
Indian Higher School Certificate (HSC) / Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Grade C+ in any three subjects
(A: 75-100; B+: 66-74; B: 57-65; C+: 50-56; C: 45-49)
General Certificate of Education
Advanced (“A”) levels
Pass A-Level / New South Wales Higher School Certificate (NSW HSC) with passes in 2 subjects
QIUP Foundation in Business / Science Pass QIUP Foundation in Business / Science Programmes with CGPA ≥ 2.0
SAM / AUSMAT / UNSW Foundation / NSW HSC /
SIT Foundation / MUFY / CIMP / CPU
Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.0
Government Matriculation Pass with CGPA of 2.0
Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) A minimum of Grade B in five (3) subjects
Diploma in IT / Computer Science / any other fields Pass Diploma in Computer Science, Information System, Information Technology, Software Engineering or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.5. Candidates with CGPA below 2.5 but above 2.0 may be admitted subject to rigorous internal assessment process

or
Pass Diploma in any other field with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 and with a credit in Mathematics at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) (or equivalent) level

International Baccalaureate (IB) Pass with 24 points
Bangladesh Higher School Certificate (HSC) Grade C+ in any three subjects, including English
(A: 75-100; B+: 66-74; B: 57-65; C+: 50-56; C: 45-49)
Other Qualifications Other qualifications will be assessed based on Senate’s recommendation and referred to MQA for approval on a case by case basis

Assessment
Students’ ability is gauged both through continuous assessments and a final exam at the end of each semester. The continuous assessment component comprises tests/quizzes, mid-term examination and projects/assignments which accounts for an allocation of about 40-50 marks depending on the course. The balance of the marks is allocated for the final examination.for the final examination.
